Red Cat to Deliver FlightWave Drones to Royal Australian Navy

Drone technology company Red Cat announced that it has secured a contract to deliver 12 FlightWave Edge 130 Blue unmanned, military-grade tricopters to the Royal Australian Navy.

FlightWave Edge, a Blue UAS-approved drone, offers long-range surveillance and reconnaissance and vertical take-off and landing capabilities, making it ideal for maritime operations and missions in other challenging environments, said Jeff Thompson, CEO of Red Cat.

According to the chief executive, the initial tranche of Edge 130 units will support the Australian defense forces in enhancing security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

The drone, built for government and military applications, was designed to capture high-accuracy aerial imagery with medium-range autonomy and operate for over an hour in forward mode.

The Edge 130 is manufactured by FlightWave, which Red Cat acquired in September 2022.

Red Cat secured the contract through Criterion Solutions, an Australian-based distributor of intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and IT solutions.
