Leidos has migrated the U.K. Ministry of Defence’s onsite supply chain infrastructure to its cloud-based Support Chain Integration Platform, or SCIP. Simon Hutchings, Leidos UK & Europe vice president for logistics and mission support, described the cloud transition as “a significant step forward” for agile and secure MoD cloud operations.
“We look forward to leveraging the now-accessible data in supporting the MoD and U.K. defense in their digital transformation to support innovative secure, and effective solutions that are designed to counter the global challenges and threats posed by contested logistics,” the executive said Tuesday.
Secure Transparency
The Leidos cloud platform is designed to provide its users with secure transparency in the MoD supply chain. With SCIP, they can rapidly access the amount and location of material inventories, as well as data on requisitioning parties, in a more efficient and less costly process, Leidos noted.
The cloud transition, which is aligned with London’s Cloud First policy, is also geared to enhance MoD’s operational flexibility and improve threat detection and sustainability. In addition, the shift supports the ministry’s digital transformation strategy and helps accelerate MoD teams’ development cycles for new capabilities.
Digital Modernization Milestone
Vice Adm. Andy Kyte, defense logistics and support chief of at MoD, called the SCIP transition a “key milestone” in the ministry’s digital modernization. “This evolution will enhance our capability and unlock significant opportunities to enhance cybersecurity, improve supply chain visibility and increase the use of AI to meet the changing demands on our armed forces,” the vice admiral said.
Besides SCIP, Leidos is also providing MoD with THOR, a scalable data and services platform for generating meteorological and oceanographic information to support the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence.
