QinetiQ Wins $307M Aerial Training Services Contract With Bundeswehr; Steve Wadey Quoted

U.K. defense technology company QinetiQ will provide the German Armed Forces with aerial training services under a 10-year contract valued at $307 million, with a two-year extension option.

QinetiQ said the procurement from the Bundeswehr, which covers Germany’s Air Force, Army, Navy and Special Forces, is the largest and longest service contract for the company’s Global Threat Representation business. It added that the long-term visibility that the award brings will open future growth opportunities.

QinetiQ’s contract services under the contract include joint terminal attack controller training, close air support, maritime air operations and target-towing for ground-based air defense setups. The company will also deploy its newly upgraded fleet of 11 PC-9 and four PC-12 aircraft.

According to Qinetiq Group CEO Steve Wadey, the contract award manifests the company’s commitment to bringing operational readiness to German armed forces missions. “The contract will form a crucial part of our global threat representation offering across all domains,” he said.

In the United States, the defense contractor is developing uncrewed aerial targets as part of a Department of Defense project to emulate supersonic missile threats for operational training and system evaluation.
