The U.S. Department of State has approved the Netherlands’ request to purchase $678 million worth of missiles from RTX.

The potential foreign military sale includes 174 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles-Extended Range missiles. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has already notified Congress about the proposed transaction.

AMRAAM is a combat-proven weapon system that has been adopted by 40 countries, including the United States. AMRAAM-ER is its latest iteration equipped with a bigger rocket motor, promising increased range and optimized flight.

Aside from missiles, Amsterdam will also purchase AMRAAM-C8 guidance sections, AMRAAM containers, KGV-135A cryptographic devices and ADU-891 adaptor group test sets.

RTX, the principal contractor of the FMS, will also provide logistics and engineering support.

On Tuesday, the Netherlands announced its purchase of Mjolner 120 mm self-propelled mortars from Swedish company BAE Hagglunds to provide ground-based fire support for armored infantry units. The Mjolner mortars are expected to be delivered in 2028.
