L3Harris Technologies said it has opened a new Wescam Authorized Service Center in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates technology company Edge Group.
The center will support users of the company’s Wescam MX reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition sensor system, such as the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces and other military units in the Middle East.
Edge announced the signing of the WASC partnership agreement during the 2021 Dubai Airshow. The knowledge transfer in the partnership will support advancing the service offering to an assembly capability, Edge said.
In a press statement, L3Harris said it will work closely with EARTH and the Electro-Optical Centre of Excellence, both Edge units, in the 42,000-square-foot WASC. The company added that with its tooling, resources and locally trained UAE nationals, the service center will enhance Wescam’s operational availability and reduce maintenance turnaround.
David Johnson, L3Harris vice president, cited the development as a continuation of the company’s localization efforts that open opportunities to grow its services and enhance customers’ defense capabilities.
