BAE Systems Announces $285M Advanced Technology Factory Renovation Project

BAE Systems will renovate its aviation technology factory in Rochester, United Kingdom, to combine its manufacturing, engineering and office spaces and increase the site’s production capacity.

The company said it will invest $285.27 million into a new, modern 32,000 sqm factory that would generate 300 jobs over the next five years. The renovation work will begin in 2025.

“This significant investment will help us attract additional highly skilled jobs to the Medway area – ensuring that we can deliver for our customers who depend on our products to complete their missions,” said Dave Banks, BAE Systems’ Rochester business center director.

The existing site houses the company’s U.K.-based electronic systems business and employs 1,600 people specializing in advanced aerospace technologies such as head-up displays, helmet-mounted displays, flight control computers and active control sticks for civil and military aircraft. It also serves as a global support service center that provides repairs to commercial airliners.

BAE Systems is making improvements to its other facilities, spending $388.97 million on its shipbuilding site in Glasgow and $259.31 million on its U.K. munitions business. The company also invests in research and development, skills, national supply chains and local communities.
