BAE Subsidiary Bohemia Interactive Simulations Upgrades New Zealand’s Virtual Training System

The New Zealand Defence Force has awarded software company Bohemia Interactive Simulations a contract to upgrade its training simulation technology.

Under the deal, BISim will deploy its VBS4 solution, a whole Earth virtual desktop training and simulation host that enables military services to create and run a wide range of military training scenarios. The VBS4 engine was developed to power military simulation and training domains.

BISim Managing Director Ryan Stephenson said the NZ Army’s Command and Control Systems School has long been a power user of simulation tools.

“[The school has] developed considerable expertise in leveraging simulation as a multiplier to produce training effects for their service men and women. We are proud to continue supporting them in their work,” he said.

The two parties also signed a deal that would see BISim, a BAE Systems subsidiary, deliver an improved representation of the New Zealand Light Armoured Vehicle and continued maintenance of TerraTools.

BiSim has been catering to defense and civilian customers since its integration in 2001, delivering simulation and training solutions to power training efforts in various nations, including France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
