Israel to Acquire Additional Eitan Engines in Potential $180M Deal With US

The U.S. Department of State has approved a potential $180 million foreign military sale of Eitan powerpack engines to Israel.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the new possible deal expands on a previously approved $85.5 million agreement that fell below the congressional reporting threshold. On top of additional Eitan 8V199TE21-D powerpack engines and components, the new package includes technical assistance, engineering support and logistics services. Rolls-Royce Solutions America of Novi, Michigan, will be the primary contractor.

The Eitan is Israel’s first wheeled armored personnel carrier, entering service in 2023 to replace the Israel Defense Forces’ aging M113 APCs. Developed by the Israeli Ministry of Defense, it features an 8×8 configuration, a 750-horsepower engine and the Iron Fist active protection system.

DSCA said the proposed sale will enhance Israel’s ability to secure its borders, infrastructure and population centers, aligning with U.S. national interests. The Israeli government is expected to integrate the equipment seamlessly into its armed forces.

This Eitan engine deal follows a series of major U.S. arms transactions with Israel in recent months. In March, Washington approved two emergency military sales totaling $2.7 billion. These included more than bomb bodies, penetrator warheads and Joint Direct Attack Munition kits. Earlier in the year, the State Department also approved over $7.4 billion worth of precision-guided munitions, bomb fuzes and Hellfire missiles.
