Sweden Orders CV90 New Builds to Replace Units Shipped to Ukraine

Sweden has ordered new Combat Vehicle 90 builds from BAE Systems to replace the units that the country shipped to Ukraine.

The new builds will also expand Ukraine’s arsenal and allow other nations to participate in the procurement process for the military vehicle, BAE said.

“These new CV9035 MkIIICs will extend the capabilities of both the Swedish and Ukrainian armies and provide crews improved combat awareness and increased mobility, protection and lethality,” according to BAE Systems Hagglunds Managing Director Tommy Gustafsson-Rask.

Sweden’s CV90 version will be manufactured using the same mid-life upgrade program for the Netherlands.

The vehicles will feature a new turret and ergonomic enhancements to provide comfort for operating crews.

BAE noted that previous combat experience and data furnished by CV90 users will inform the vehicle’s final build, design and functions.

The Swedish Army’s purchase of additional CV90 MkIII units is a “precursor” of the vehicle’s serial production for 10 European countries, with the initial delivery of 50 CV90s estimated to cost around $360 million and to be fulfilled between 2025 and 2027, Shephard Media reported.
