UAE Receives Delivery of Fouth GlobalEye AEW&C Aircraft From Saab

The United Arab Emirates has accepted delivery of its latest GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft from Saab.

The Swedish defense contractor shipped the advanced AEW&C aircraft on April 18, marking the fourth GlobalEye delivery in a span of four years.

The company completed its commitment to supply the UAE’s first three AEW&C solutions in 2020 and 2021, with the fifth unit scheduled for arrival in late 2024.

“The high delivery pace in the GlobalEye program is testament to our unique in-house capability, which means we control the entire process from development to integration,” Saab President and CEO Micael Johansson said

In 2017, the UAE awarded Saab a $1.3 billion contract to develop and produce two GlobalEyes, which was followed by $238 million and $1 billion deals in 2017 and 2021 for the third, fourth and fifth systems.

Saab later secured a $190 million contract with the Gulf nation in January to provide maintenance, logistics and training services for the aircraft fleet, Shephard Media reported.

GlobalEye provides military customers with real-time information to enhance their situational awareness and enable them to detect potential threats in advance.
