Leidos, University of Edinburgh Collaborate to Explore AI-Enabled Technology Uses

U.S. defense company Leidos is collaborating with the University of Edinburgh’s Bayer Centre to explore artificial intelligence and data science solutions.

The partnership combines Leidos’ Trusted Mission AI and other technologies with the center’s cutting-edge research to develop innovative, highly reliable AI-enabled solutions. It aims to train the next generation of the AI workforce, particularly the university’s over 45,000 students, equipping them with skills that could make them competitive in the talent market.

Leidos UK & Europe Chief Technology Officer Charles Newhouse said the university offers an interdisciplinary approach to research and an environment that welcomes innovation, which is ideal “for groundbreaking advancements in AI.”

The latest research cooperation deal signals the University of Edinburgh’s entry into Leidos’ global network of innovators under the University Alliance Program. According to Ron Keesing, chief AI officer at Leidos, universities are “key partners in researching, testing and bringing solutions to market for the nation’s most challenging problems.”

Bayes Centre specializes in exploring AI and data science use cases to address society’s challenges regarding the environment, healthcare, national security and other areas.
