Slovakia is set to purchase 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters from the United States to strengthen its defense capabilities and address current and future threats.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the Department of State has approved the possible foreign military sale to the Slovakian government. Apart from the AH-1Z Viper helicopters, the proposal also includes the acquisition of 26 T-700 GE 401C engines, 1,680 advanced precision kill weapon systems, and 14 Honeywell embedded global positioning systems/inertial navigation systems.
The Central European nation also plans to acquire support and test equipment, integration and test support services, and spare and repair parts. DSCA estimates the package to reach $600 million in total cost. It said the proposed sale aligns with the U.S. government’s national security and foreign policy objectives of improving the security of a NATO member nation.
Bell Textron and General Electric are the principal contractors for the FMS deal.
