L3Harris Technologies has collaborated with Voyis Imaging and Wavefront Systems to enhance the capabilities of autonomous underwater vehicles that will be delivered to the naval forces of a NATO member state.
Under the partnership, L3Harris integrated a combined payload of the Voyis Recon LS and the Wavefront Solstice 3000 multiple-aperture sonar into its Iver4 900 platform.
According to Voyis, the integrated payload enables the AUV platform to capture high-resolution 3D point-cloud data by utilizing the Recon LS’ compact dynamic laser scanner.
The AUV payload also includes a 4K imaging system that delivers crystal-clear still images, the company said.
Additionally, the upgraded Iver4 900 gained high-resolution bathymetry and swath coverage of up to 200 m wide, thanks to the Wavefront Solstice 3000 MAS.
The unified features allow naval forces’ AUVs to covertly detect, classify and identify mine-like objects, thus reducing risks to divers.
Notably, L3Harris’ Iver4 900 provides the stability and endurance needed for the AUV payload to achieve its optimal functions, Voyis said.
Equipped with the combined capabilities, the AUV is expected to redefine mine countermeasure operations by deploying single assets to conduct and complete complex MCM missions.
Using the payload, the Iver4 900 AUV can activate search and classify mapping capabilities to re-acquire and identify MLOs, improve detection and reduce false alarms.
