The United Kingdom will join the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement, a security framework between the United States and Bahrain. According to a Breaking Defense report, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani confirmed the news during the Manama Dialogue on Friday.
The U.S. Department of State described the framework, signed in September 2023, as an effort that supports and is distinct from other security cooperation agreements. The two nations did not provide specific details on the cooperation but agreed to regularly conduct meetings and consultations on defense, military and technology.
In a statement, the State Department described London’s participation in the initiative provides a platform for greater cooperation among the three “like-minded states” in the areas of:
- regional security integration,
- external threat deterrence, and
- commerce, science and technology.
London recently revamped its defense policy after the Labour Party took over the government in July. The Strategic Defence Review launched by Prime Minister Keir Starmer aims to assess the needs of the British armed forces, boosting their capabilities amid growing international tensions.
