Ovzon to Help Develop Swedish Sovereign Space Capabilities

Broadband telecommunications company Ovzon said it has signed a teaming agreement with the Swedish Space Corp. to develop Sweden’s sovereign space and satellite capabilities.

Combining Ovzon’s Ovzon 3 satellite services with SSC’s extensive experience in space services, the collaboration aims to support the strategic needs of the Nordic country and its regional allies across air, land and maritime operations.

SSC CEO Charlotta Sund said the partnership merges the strengths of two complementary organizations to deliver innovative solutions that address geopolitical, defense and sustainability challenges.

Ovzon CEO Per Norén also highlighted the importance of the collaboration, especially now that Sweden is a NATO member, noting that it allows the two companies to deliver secure and sustainable satellite communications solutions. “We look forward to a continued partnership, enabling Sweden and its allies to face the challenges of today and tomorrow,” the executive said.

The new agreement builds on an earlier collaboration in 2023 that sought to enhance Ovzon’s satcom-as-a-service offering and mobile satellite terminals and strengthen SSC’s capacity to support critical missions that demand high-volume data transmission and reception.

In November, Ovzon also secured a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration to test the capabilities of its satcom systems and services in controlling unmanned ground vehicles over long distances. The demonstration will involve Ovzon’s terminals and satcom services powered by the Ovzon 3 satellite, in service since July.
