Serco to Operate Four Hong Kong Tunnels Under $164M Contracts

The Hong Kong Transport Department has awarded Serco two six-year contracts with a combined value of $164.36 million to manage, operate and maintain four key tunnels.

Under an $84.82 million contract for the Shing Mun Tunnels and Tseung Kwan O Tunnel and a $79.54 million contract for the Kai Tak Tunnel and Lion Rock Tunnel, Serco will perform regular road patrolling, vehicle recovery services, traffic redirection during incidents, and government systems and equipment maintenance within the tunnels, where over 300,000 vehicles pass by daily.

Michael Belshaw, managing director of Serco Hong Kong, said the awards will enable the company to play a significant role in ensuring safe and efficient traffic movement and enhancing Hong Kong’s transport systems.

The contracts strengthen Serco’s presence in Asia, building on over three decades of experience managing, operating and maintaining tunnels, he added.
