Venice Goodwine has garnered more than ten years of experience working for various programs of the United States Armed Forces. Her commitment to bolstering the military and government landscapes has made her a vital member of the US Air Force (USAF). This has also named her as a first-time Wash100 winner in 2024.

Venice Goodwine: Who is she?

Venice M. Goodwine assumed the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the US Air Force in August 2023. She brings over 30 years of IT expertise to lead three Air Force and Space Force directorates. These directorates include Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Enterprise Information Technology.

Ms. Goodwine’s illustrious career in IT encompasses government contracting, private industries, military services, and federal systems. Throughout her career, she has led large IT organizations, helped establish governance, overseen cybersecurity operations, and executed several IT programs.

Before becoming CIO, Ms. Goodwine served as the Senior Cybersecurity Officer at the Air Force from July 2014 to December 2018. She provided technical and mechanical competencies, managing comprehensive security programs to protect the Air Force’s assets and infrastructure.

Venice Goodwine holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer & Information Sciences & Support Services from the University of Maryland Global Campus. She also holds two Master’s degrees: a Master of Technology (MTech) from the University of Maryland College Park and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from William Carey University.

Venice Goodwine’s Professional Background

Venice Goodwine began her military career as an IT Project Manager in the Marine Corps from December 2006 until October 2008. Subsequently, Ms. Goodwine served as a Customer Support Branch Manager until October 2009. These roles empowered her to hone her competence in many IT capabilities, eventually leading her to become USMC’s Senior Program Manager.

In 2018, Ms. Goodwine assumed the role of Chief Information Security Officer at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). After two years, she became the Director of Enterprise IT at the US Air Force. This was the beginning of Venice Goodwine’s leadership of multiple AF directorates.

Miss Goodwine’s expertise earned her prestigious certifications, such as:

  • DAWIA Level III Information Technology from the Defense Acquisition University
  • Project Management Professional from the Project Management Institute
  • CISSP from the ISC2

Venice Goodwine’s Take Off to Winning Wash100 2024

Venice Goodwine is among the government contracting leaders recognized as a Wash100 2024 winner. The award, hosted by Executive Mosaic, chose the USAF CIO for her demonstrated excellence in molding the GovCon realm.

Executive Mosaic CEO Jim Garrettson highlighted that Venice M. Goodwine possesses the “groundbreaking vision, unwavering innovation, and the resolute dedication to excellence that shapes the government and GovCon landscapes and propels our nation to new heights.”

Ms. Goodwine is among the 50% of the Wash100 2024 to win for the first time. Executive Mosaic is also proud to have her as one of the women winners this year; one-third of the Wash100 2024 awardees are women.

Venice Goodwine: Propelling the IT Industry to Better Heights

Venice Goodwine’s remarkable career in IT shaped her to be a crucial figure in the Air Force’s goals of harnessing digital capabilities.

In May 2023, Ms. Goodwine oversaw the USAF’s migration of over 100 cloud applications to its CloudOne platform. She highlighted the service branch’s mission to adopt cloud capabilities for additional durability, security, and accessibility.

In August 2023, Venice Goodwine was involved with the recruitment of civilians into the DoD’s Cyber Except Service (CES) system. CES was designed to provide enhanced flexibility for hiring, retaining, and reskilling cyber professionals. The system was modeled after Congress’ authority was granted to the Pentagon in 2016.

Ms. Goodwine’s involvement in the CES personnel system has been paramount to the DoD’s goal of catering to its customers. Additionally, the system helps keep a sufficient pool of skilled cyber professionals and compete with private institutions salary-wise.
