Safe Pro Group Provides AI-Enabled Tool to Address Ukraine Landmine Problem

Artificial intelligence-powered defense and security solutions provider Safe Pro Group has agreed to use its SpotlightAI image processing solution to detect and clear landmines in Ukraine. The company’s AI-powered suite of tools has analyzed over a million drone images, identifying more than 23,000 explosive threats across 5,338 hectares of land.

Under a recently signed multiyear memorandum of understanding, Safe Pro Group and Ukraine’s Center of Excellence for Mine Action and Environmental Security will focus on establishing next-generation demining methodologies training programs using SpotlightAI.

The Amazon Web Services cloud-based SpotlightAI can process a significant amount of sub-centimeter-level drone imagery and create high-resolution orthomosaic maps and interactive 3D models. The capabilities provide users with a comprehensive visualization of surveyed locations, enhancing critical situational awareness for multiple applications.

“The selection of our AI-powered small object threat detection with precise mapping technology by the center validates our vision and capabilities. We are honored to play a vital role in developing modernized demining standards and methodologies that will help save lives and restore land to safe use,” said Safe Pro Group Chairman and CEO Dan Erdberg.

The collaboration is seen as helping Ukraine address its landmine contamination problem, which currently affects more than 138,500 square kilometers filled with landmines and other unexploded ordnances. The Mine Action Center, operating under Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence, has led efforts to solve the issue, facilitating how Kyiv collaborates with the industry on tackling environmental security and technological innovation.
