Rheinmetall recently demonstrated military transmission connections between Germany and Lithuania using its Legatus platform at the Bundeswehr’s Mobile Combat Training Center. The test builds on the live simulation technology already established at Germany’s Army Combat Training Center in Letzlingen/Altmark.
During the demonstration, Bundeswehr troops stationed in the Baltic country used mobile module connectors to facilitate live communication simulations with their counterparts in Germany using the MCTC’s Reachback real-time analysis procedure.
The test, which took place in November, aimed to enhance the training of German forces deployed on NATO’s eastern flank by making simulation technology available in Lithuania. The military functions evaluated during the demonstration included artillery and engineering support capabilities and infantry vehicle technology.
Maik Nienaber, Rheinmetall’s head of system technology networked training systems, described the test as “an important milestone,” highlighting how advanced simulation technology can support German forces based in Lithuania in the future. He noted that the technology, already integrated into the MCTC, offers the advantage of quick deployment in Lithuania.
In addition to the simulation technology, Rheinmetall is advancing its presence in Lithuania by establishing an ammunition plant, a project that has received incentives from the Lithuanian Ministry of the Economy and Innovation.
