Lockheed Martin has demonstrated live tracking with the AN/SPY-7(V)2 radar for Spain’s F-110 multi-mission frigate. The test took place at Lockheed Martin’s Aegis SCOMBA Integration Center in New Jersey in collaboration with Navantia, Spain’s national shipbuilder.
Chandra Marshall, Lockheed Martin’s vice president of Multi-Domain Combat Solutions, said the radar system’s hardware and software effectively tracked airborne objects, indicating its readiness for further testing. The company will now move forward with comprehensive testing of all radar system components and Aegis tactical equipment, with delivery planned for 2026.
According to Carlos Lopez, program director at Navantia, the live tracking demonstration represents a critical milestone for the program, which remains on schedule for the commissioning of the first frigate in 2028.
Lockheed Martin is also working with Navantia to integrate the Aegis and SCOMBA tactical computer programs into the upcoming F-110 frigates.
Previously, Lockheed demonstrated the SPY-7 radar on Japan’s Aegis system-equipped vessels, which the Japanese Ministry of Defense expects to deploy in 2028 and 2029. The solid-state radar is currently deployed by the U.S. Missile Defense Agency for the Long-Range Discrimination Radar program and by Canada for its River-class destroyers.
