Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer said Sweden has selected the C-390 Millennium as its new tactical transport aircraft for the NATO partner’s defense modernization.

The contract makes Sweden the sixth NATO country to choose the aircraft as a logistics option, following the Netherlands, Austria and Portugal, improving interoperability within the alliance.

According to Embraer, the Millennium next-generation multimission aircraft‘s flexible cargo handling system allows it to carry a wide range of loads, from troops and pallets to vehicles and other equipment.

Embraer Defense & Security President and CEO Bosco da Costa Jr. emphasized how the new deal with Sweden reflects the operational capability upgrade seen with the C-390 compared to previous cargo aircraft.

“The aircraft is being recognized, gradually, by the most advanced air forces in the world, such as the Swedish Air Force,” the chief executive said. “This selection encourages us to offer our customers the aircraft they need to perform their most demanding missions with unparalleled versatility, reliability and performance.”
