US, Finland Partner to Improve OSINT Collection Cooperation

The United States is collaborating with Finland to improve intelligence cooperation between their armies using open source data gathering and analysis.

In late August, the U.S. Army 66th Military Intelligence Brigade’s Northern Raven Team participated in a joint OSINT collection mission with the Finnish Army. The event took advantage of artificial intelligence-driven algorithms, geospatial analysis tools and other latest OSINT technologies, providing the U.S. and Finland with an accurate view of the current standing of their strategic military operations.

Specialist Curtis Maxwell, an OSINT collector with the Northern Raven Team, said OSINT improves intelligence data sharing between partners.

“What makes OSINT so sharable is that it is entirely based on publicly available information,” Maxwell told DVIDS. “We can really work with anybody, and it lets us start that communication process in terms of ‘here’s how we can share intelligence, and here’s how we can work together to enhance our collection for both sides.'”

The northern European nation’s entry as the 31st member of NATO in April 2023 allowed the United States to test its OSINT collaboration capabilities.
