The U.S. Department of State has approved the Egyptian government’s request to acquire Stinger missiles and other related support services from RTX.
The proposed Foreign Military Sales deal, valued at $740 million, will provide the Middle Eastern nation with 720 Stinger missiles for vehicle-based use on existing Avenger systems and 20 Product Verification Flight Test munitions. The potential contract includes several non-major defense equipment items such as spare and repair parts and engineering, technical and logistics support services.
According to the RTX website, the lightweight, self-contained Stinger air defense system is combat-proven with over 270 intercepts and deployed by 19 nations and all four U.S. military services.
The latest missile order forms part of recent MDE purchases from the Egyptian government. In early September, Lockheed Martin announced that it would deliver two C-130J-30 Super Hercules tactical aircraft to Cairo, improving the nation’s capabilities to transport weapons, supplies and soldiers.
