Singapore Receives US State Department Approval for RTX Advanced Medium Range Missile Acquisition

The U.S. Department of State has approved the Singapore government’s plan to acquire 28 AIM-120C-8 advanced medium range air-to-air missiles and related equipment.

The $133 million proposed acquisition under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program also includes purchasing two AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guidance sections from RTX business Raytheon, the deal’s principal contractor. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of the possible sale on Monday.

According to Raytheon, its AMRAAM weapon’s capabilities are combat-proven to establish air dominance. The AIM-120 missile can operate in all weather beyond visual range. Used in more than 40 nations, the missile system can be integrated into a wide range of aircraft, including the F-15A/B/C/D/E Eagle/Strike Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon and Eurofighter Typhoon.

The Southeast Asian nation’s planned acquisition also includes AMRAAM control section spares, missile containers and support equipment, among other non-major defense equipment items.
