MBDA Secures New Precision Strike Missile Order From Germany

Germany has tapped MBDA to provide Brimstone 3 precision strike missiles for its Eurofighter combat aircraft.

Eric Beranger, CEO at MBDA, said in a statement Friday that the missile procurement is part of efforts to harmonize the region’s armaments and the German armed forces’ ammunition stockpile. He added that the new deal is the first missile production line outside the United Kingdom, ensuring the region can defend against all threats.

The new missile order is for 3,266 units, with the first batch of deliveries comprising 378 missiles. The acquisition comes after the budget committee of the German federal parliament, the Bundestag, approved plans to buy the missiles in June.

The Brimstone 3 missile is a low-collateral, tactical strike weapon capable of targeting fast-moving and maneuvering objects, main battle tanks, armored vehicles and naval vessels.

MBDA is also working with the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command under a four-year contract worth $145.56 million to deliver common anti-air modular missiles for maritime vessels.
