France Orders Mobile Air Traffic Control Solution From Collins Aerospace

France has awarded Collins Aerospace a contract to procure the company’s mobile air traffic control technology.

On Monday, Collins announced its agreement with the French Direction Générale de l’Armement to equip the French Army with ATNAVICS, short for Air Traffic Navigation, Integration and Coordination System.

The vehicle-mounted ATNAVICS provides air traffic services to support rapid troop deployments in remote locations and humanitarian missions in severe environments.

According to Bruce Brown, vice president of business development mission systems at Collins, the ATC system provides field operations with surveillance, precision landing and identification capabilities.

“The selection by the DGA of our mobile air traffic control systems will provide French forces with expeditionary air traffic management capabilities,” he said.

ATNAVICS is tested for operation and survivability on the battlefield and complies with international civil aviation standards. The air traffic system will continue receiving upgrades and enhancements to ensure usability and longevity in the decades ahead, Collins said.

The latest deal makes France the latest ATNAVICS user, joining the U.S. Army, Marine Corps and Air Force. USAF accepted delivery of the solution in February.
