US OKs Ukraine’s Request to Purchase HIMARS Missile Launchers

The United States has approved Ukraine’s request to purchase three High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems.

The Department of State classified the proposed foreign military sale as an emergency case and waived the required congressional review for the arms deal, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

The HIMARS shipment will cost around $30 million and will be delivered to Ukraine, courtesy of Germany, the agency added.

In his visit to Washington, D.C., on Thursday, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed his government’s latest military assistance to Kyiv.

The emergency FMS deal will boost Ukraine’s capability to continue repelling Russia’s invasion and will support the United States’ foreign policy goals and national security objectives, the DSCA said.

The United States government will not deploy any government or contractor representatives to supply the HIMARS, which will be sourced from the U.S. Army inventory.

Manufactured by Lockheed Martin, the HIMARS will provide Ukrainian forces with capabilities to rapidly launch missile strikes with a range of up to 80 km.
