Palantir Aims to Accelerate Ukraine’s Demining Efforts Using AI Tech

Palantir Technologies has agreed to support Ukraine’s demining efforts using the company’s artificial intelligence-enabled software.

Palantir’s deal with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine will see the two parties collaborate to digitize and automate humanitarian demining operations in the war-torn country.

The partnership will also improve digital capabilities to coordinate better land release and assessment and mine risk management actions.

According to the company, it will deploy its Artificial Intelligence Platform to analyze data from Ukraine’s local governments and national agencies. The process is expected to speed up the demining efforts and recommend more efficient operational methods such as drones.

AIP will enable more effective data management to ensure that all decision-makers involved in the program can access clear and coherent information, Palantir explained.

The collaboration will support Ukraine’s target of processing 80 percent of the country’s potentially mine-contaminated lands and handing over the areas for regular use within 10 years.

Noting that Ukraine is the most mined country in the world, a Slovakia-based think tank estimated that demining operations using traditional methods and existing resources could take 757 years.
