Austal has added Kathryn Toohey as a non-executive director

Toohey joins the company’s board following a stellar career in the Australian Army. Before entering the private sector, the military general served as head of the Army’s land capability division, where she oversaw the modernization and sustainment of various military equipment and infrastructures.

She also previously held the role of deputy electoral commissioner in the Australian Electoral Commission.

In 2017, Toohey became a Member of the Order of Australia, recognizing her contributions to the Australian Defence Force.

According to John Rothwell, board chairperson for Austal, Toohey’s experience in the Australian Army will bring valuable insights to support the company’s work on the LAND8710 Landing Craft.

In 2023, the shipbuilder and maritime technology provider secured a contract to build medium and heavy landing craft for the Australian Army. The LCH is expected to enable Australia to perform littoral maneuvers in line with recommendations from the Defence Strategic Review.

Toohey also sits as a non-executive director at Defence Health, Cylent International, Greater Western Sydney Giants and ACT Basketball.
