Leonardo will put its AW101 and AW189 helicopters on display at the six-day Seoul International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition, which kicks off Tuesday.
During the event, Leonardo will present aircraft features designed to better support the missions of South Korean civil and military forces and seek opportunities for enhanced partnerships with local defense industry players.
The AW101 medium-lift, multirole helicopter is designed to support maritime, battlefield and personnel recovery, search and rescue, and other missions. It features an ice protection system and the capability to operate in temperatures ranging between −45 degrees and 50 degrees Celsius. The United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and Norway are among the countries that use the aircraft.
AW189, meanwhile, is a twin-engine, super-medium helicopter for civil and public service applications. Many operators in Asian countries have procured the aircraft for search and rescue, medical evacuation, firefighting, disaster relief and law enforcement.
The Republic of Korea Navy and the Korea Coast Guard are currently using Leonardo’s AW159 and AW139 helicopters, respectively. The Korean National Police, meanwhile, employs the AW119K platform.
