The United Kingdom is seeking to rev up its unmanned armed forces capabilities under a new drone strategy that its military leaders are planning, British Defence Procurement Minister James Cartlidge said.
In a keynote speech on opening day of the DSEI trade show in London, Cartlidge disclosed that Britain’s defense officials “will be bringing forward an uncrewed systems strategy in the coming months.”
The strategy would help in accelerating the “U.K. armed forces’ access to uncrewed systems and rapidly equipping them with innovative technology across air, sea and land,” he added.
According to Defense News, MOD officials are looking at the strategy being ready for publication by around yearend.
UAVs were among those that dominated the news around DSEI 2023. On Tuesday, QinetiQ announced signing a framework agreement with BAE Systems on studying the potential for a drone collaborative project. The Farnborough-based defense company also introduced its low-cost, disposable, jet-powered Jackdaw drone concept that could be on the market by 2025.
