The United Arab Emirates’ EDGE Group and the Brazilian Air Force’s Department of Aerospace Science and Technology have signed an agreement for joint defense technology projects in smart weapons, unmanned platforms and other areas.
EDGE, a state-owned advanced technology company based in Abu Dhabi, announced in April that it will open its first international office in Brasilia as part of plans to expand the group’s footprint in the Latin American region.
The new agreement signed in Sao Jose dos Campos on Thursday is part of an EDGE delegation’s Brazilian itinerary to explore collaboration opportunities on research and development and partnerships on developing advanced defense systems.
During the trip, the EDGE representatives met with their counterparts from the Brazilian arms company Siatt, talks that follow a memorandum of understanding signed at LAAD 2023 for the joint exploration of strategic business relationships in smart weapons development.
EDGE entered a joint development agreement with the Brazilian Navy, also finalized at the LAAD trade show, for missiles and other defense technologies.
The 14th edition of of the LAAD international defense and security fair was held in Rio de Janeiro from April 11 to 14.
