The Netherlands has ordered anti-drone systems from Israel-based defense company Elbit Systems. Elbit will deliver the ReDrone counter-unmanned aerial systems under a four-year, $55 million contract.

ReDrone comes with a command and control system, the DAiR X-band software-defined radar system, signal intelligence sensors and a COAPS-L electro-optical payload, which uses artificial intelligence and machine learning video analytics algorithms to automatically detect and classify hostile UAS. The company said ReDrone can track UAS threats during day and night operations in rural or urban environments and in any weather condition.

According to the Elbit Systems website, the counter-UAS solution can identify not only the location of drones but also the UAS operators. It also provides electronic attack capabilities, including automatic and manual jamming, to undermine drone communications.

Oren Sabag, Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance & Electronic Warfare general manager at Elbit Systems, said the company is seeing an increasing demand for the counter-UAS solution amid the growing threat of drones.

“We have leveraged our technology of advanced radar, signal intelligence, electro-optic and electronic warfare technologies to develop an advanced, open and future-ready solution for this emerging requirement of our customers,” he said, adding that he expects the new deal to strengthen the company’s relationship with the country.
