QinetiQ Secures US Contract for Aerial Target Services

QinetiQ Target Systems Canada has secured a five-year contract to provide the U.S. government with uncrewed aerial target support services. The $13.3 million contract, managed by the Canadian Commercial Corp., will extend until late 2029, with an option for a six-month extension.

The contract ensures that the U.S. Navy will have continued access to the Vindicator II, a prequalified target drone, for training purposes at U.S. military ranges. Additionally, Canadian personnel will be deployed to offer services tailored to the Navy’s specific needs.

Finalized last month in collaboration with CCC and Public Services and Procurement Canada, the deal marks the sixth consecutive contract awarded to Alberta-based QTS for Vindicator II support services.

Ryan Peterson, project and customer account manager at QinetiQ, noted the company’s ongoing involvement in the program as a reflection of its competence and significance as a business partner. “This is a much-appreciated recognition of the excellent working relationship between QinetiQ and our USN customer and a nod to the outstanding service provided by our Global Field Services team for more than two decades,” he said.

The reusable Vindicator II target drone is designed to simulate various threats to air defense systems, including high-diver threats, unmanned aerial vehicles, low-speed flyers, and helicopters. It can be deployed for land- and sea-based operations, even in extreme conditions.
