French Consortium to Launch Cybersecurity Tool for Connected Equipment

The French consortium HyGARDE expects to unveil by yearend its first prototype of a cybersecurity solution to protect connected equipment, a goal initially focused on securing technologies for the renewable energy transition.

The prototype will be used to secure the equipment of Solutions Hydrogene, a company that provides renewable hydrogen storage systems for industrial and government use, as well as household customers. The company’s equipment is remotely managed and can be installed to complement solar panels or windmills, IDEMIA Secure Transactions, HyGARDE consortium member and coordinator, said Wednesday.

The group plans to release the prototype’s full platform, including hydrogen storage, in the fall of 2025. Tests for the platform’s artificial intelligence-powered monitoring system are scheduled for 2026.

Lifetime Security Goal

HyGARDE’s main goal is to create an off-the-shelf solution for securing critical connected equipment, starting from its development up to deployment and maintenance. In addition, the consortium, which also includes cybersecurity firm IoT.BZH and device developer Solent, will also focus on long-term certification and compliance to guarantee the equipment’s lifetime security.

Launched in September 2023, HyGARDE draws its funding from France 2030, the French government’s $57 billion strategic investment program.

Besides HyGARDE, IDEMIA Secure Transactions is also a member of Hyperform, a European consortium seeking to design a technology to protect sensitive data from potential quantum-enabled breaches. France and the European Union jointly support Hyperform to advance the region’s goal of creating a sovereign capability for post-quantum cryptography.
