Royal Australian Navy Veteran Joins Serco as Managing Director for Defense

Royal Australian Navy veteran Peter Behrendt has joined British company Serco as managing director for defense, succeeding Clint Thomas.

In his new role, Behrendt will use his years of leadership experience in the defense and security sectors to oversee Serco’s development and deployment of emerging defense technologies.

He spent over 12 years at RAN, serving as an executive branch officer until his retirement in 2007. After leaving service, he held several leadership positions at various companies, including vice president of the Asia-Pacific public sector at Dataminr, group strategy director at BMT, and head of ports and terminals division at Saab.

Collaboration and innovation

Serco Asia Pacific CEO Andrew Head said Behrendt’s track record and experience match its defense business leadership needs. The appointment comes as the company plans its response to the rapidly evolving demands in defense capabilities, including agile and innovative support services, he added.

Head also thanked Thomas for his legacy of fostering “a culture of collaboration and innovation.”

Behrendt inherits several contracts secured during Thomas’ tenure, including deals with the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy Pacific to maintain and repair two rigid-hull inflatable boats deployed in Australia and continue providing engineering and airfield support services naval air bases in Yeovilton and Culdrose, England.

“It’s inspiring to see how Serco’s values reflect the fundamental goodness of its people, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and integrity,” he said in remarks about his appointment at Serco. “This commitment drives positive impact for Serco’s clients and the communities we operate in, showcasing the true essence of what makes the organisation thrive.”
