The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense and Saab have signed a contract modification worth $26 million to support the British Army’s training operations in Oman.
The new agreement expands on a $72 million instrumented live training contract signed in April. The three-year contract seeks to provide the army with live simulation systems support across its permanent Collective Training locations in the United Kingdom and Germany.
Under the amended contract, Saab will deliver the latest equipment and training services to the British forces operating in the Omani-British Joint Training Area. Located near Duqm port, the military base, also known as the Ras Madrakah training area, is the largest joint training facility used by the British Army.
Additionally, Saab will provide a high-fidelity solution capable of providing realistic and accurate replications of training environments. The company’s technicians, meanwhile, will be in charge of the training services and management of the Exercise Control ecosystem.
“This significant contract amendment further solidifies the strong partnership between the British Army, the Royal Army of Oman and Saab,” Simon Pearce, training and simulation systems portfolio leader for the U.K. MoD’s Defence Equipment & Support, said in a statement.
Pearce added that the contract aligns with the Collective Training Transformation program. Also known as the British Army Collective Training System, CCTP is a $1 billion initiative designed to transform how the British Army conducts collective training, which entails replacing outdated training materials with live, virtual and constructive systems.
Saab will deliver the equipment and services from 2024 to 2025. Apart from Oman, the British Army has also deployed its Saab systems in military exercises held in Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Kenya, Jordan, Cyprus and Germany.
