The Five Eyes intelligence alliance has released guidance to help tech startups protect their innovation, reputation and growth against threats posed by state-sponsored malicious actors.
The shared security guidance was added to the alliance’s Secure Innovation initiative materials, designed to provide the tech businesses in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States with a set of cost-effective measures to defend against security threats, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said Monday.
Recently, the U.S., Canadian and Australian government agencies released a joint cybersecurity advisory warning of brute force attacks such as password spraying by Iranian cyber actors to access sensitive networks.
According to Mike Casey, director of ODNI’s National Counterintelligence and Security Center, the guidance will also help tech investors strengthen their portfolio companies against security risks, noting how critical innovation is in shaping the future.
The Secure Innovation guidance was launched after the security and intelligence agency heads from the Five Eyes countries met in October 2023 and announced five shared principles of secure innovation to protect technology companies.
