Estonia’s Milrem Robotics and South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace will collaborate to develop and market robotic combat vehicles and other ground robotic systems.
Under a recently signed memorandum of understanding, the two companies will focus on improving RCV performance requirements and marketing the solutions to potential international customers, using their experience and expertise to connect with the target market.
Among Milrem’s RCV platforms is Type X, which offers armed forces improved survivability, extended standoff distance and low maintenance needs to elevate operational readiness.
Milrem Robotics founder and CEO Kuldar Vaarsi sees the partnership as accelerating the development of robotic solutions that address the modern requirements of armed forces around the world.
While Hanhwa Aerospace is known for its advanced land combat vehicles, such as the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer, the South Korean aerospace and defense firm has also ventured into uncrewed ground vehicles and precision-guided munitions and aircraft engines.
Michael Coulter, president and CEO-nominee of Hanwha Global Defense, said his company’s international expansion brings its technological and industrial expertise to the global stage, helping accelerate the development of solutions that would address current and emerging threats. “Through this collaboration, we intend to bring new capability and capacity to address rapidly evolving combat environments,” he said.
Milrem Robotics’ portfolio has demonstrated its unique contributions to the modern battlefield. The robotics firm recently extended aid to Ukraine by delivering 14 THeMIS unmanned ground vehicles designed for anti-tank mine clearing and unexploded ordnance removal operations.
