United Kingdom-based Foreland Shipping Ltd will continue providing the British armed forces with services to transport essential warfighting equipment and supplies across the globe.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, the seven-year, $596 million long-term strategic sealift contract includes the delivery of four roll-on, roll-off shipping vessels. These ships will transport armored vehicles, emergency medical supplies, complex weapon systems and other military equipment.
The FSL vessels have already assisted the ministry by shipping more than 23,000 tons of equipment, including ammunition, from Newport, Wales, to Ukraine.
In addition to supporting British aid to Ukraine, the new contract is expected to benefit several other missions worldwide, including the U.K.-led Joint Expeditionary Force Exercise Joint Protector in Latvia.
“Maintaining our strategic sealift capability is essential to our operational readiness and ability to respond to global crises. This contract reaffirms our commitment to collaborating with industry partners to ensure we can meet both immediate needs and long-term national security,” said Cdre. Karen Rees, head of Defence Supply Chain Operations & Movements at the MoD.
The latest contract also benefits the company’s approximately 150 employees nationwide, most of whom are reservists.
