US Approves $174M Sale of Missiles, Bombs to Morocco

The U.S. Department of State has approved two potential arms sales to Morocco, totaling $174.4 million.

The first proposed foreign military sale, valued at $88.4 million, includes up to 30 AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles. This package includes an AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guidance section, telemetry kits, support equipment, spares, and training and logistical services. RTX is the principal contractor for the deal.

The second planned sale, estimated at $86 million, includes 500 GBU-39B small-diameter bombs, practice bombs, training rounds, containers, support equipment, repair and transportation support, with Boeing as the primary contractor.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said both sales aim to enhance Morocco’s defense capabilities and improve interoperability with U.S. forces. Specifically, the missile acquisition will help the North African country secure its borders and territorial waters, counter terrorism and illicit trafficking, and use its newly acquired F-16 Block 72 fleet. The bomb package also strengthens collaborative operations between the U.S. Air Force and the Royal Moroccan Air Force.

The approved transactions follow a previously authorized sale of Javelin missiles and related equipment to Morocco. That deal included 612 Javelin FGM-148F missiles, 200 Javelin lightweight command launch units, missile simulation rounds, and support equipment.
