Uruguay Taps Embraer to Deliver Super Tucano Aircraft

Brazilian multinational Embraer has received a contract from the Uruguayan Air Force to deliver up to six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, part of a fleet expansion program to improve the military service’s operational capacity.

According to the aerospace firm, the Super Tucano, used by 16 air forces around the world, is designed for a wide range of mission portfolios, including border patrol, close air support and advanced training.

Bosco da Costa Jr., president and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, expressed the company’s gratitude to Uruguay for the new contract. “With this acquisition, Uruguay will have differentiated capabilities that will greatly contribute to the surveillance of its borders and increase FAU’s operational readiness,” he said, referring to the service branch’s abbreviation in Spanish.

The chief executive said the A-29 is a reference in its segment in the global market. Once its delivery is completed in 2025, Uruguay would become the sixth country in South America to have the Super Tucano aircraft, along with Brazil, Chile and Paraguay.

The new deal comes just one month after Embraer secured a C-390 aircraft contract from the Netherlands and Austria under a joint purchase agreement between the Royal Netherlands Air Force and the Austrian Air Force.
