Rheinmetall has secured a contract from the Ukrainian government to help build an ammunition factory there.
The company said the contract, valued at several hundred million euros, entails the facility’s complete technical outfitting and commissioning. The German defense firm will also oversee the factory operations through a joint venture with a Ukrainian partner enterprise.
Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Kyiv’s reindustrialization and defense capabilities. While in Berlin in June, the executive signed an agreement with Oleksandr Kamyshin, the Ukrainian minister for strategic industries, to expand cooperation between the two sides.
“We are putting our words into action and together with our partner we will create a Ukrainian competence center for ammunition,” he said in a statement.
According to the company, construction work on the facility is expected to begin soon, with ammunition production projected to start within two years.
Beyond the ammunition factory, Rheinmetall recently established an armor plant in western Ukraine and is poised to deliver the first Lynx infantry fighting vehicle to the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the end of the year.
