WISeKey Unit Eyes Neutral European Constellation, IoT Partnership With Swiss Army

Cybersecurity company WISeKey subsidiary WISeSat.Space plans to develop a neutral European satellite constellation and collaborate with the Swiss Army on an internet of things project.

The planned European constellation, which will harness WISeSat.Space’s capabilities in low-orbit satellites, will seek to enable the region’s data autonomy and security, as well as reduce reliance on non-European data services, WISeKey said in a statement.

A neutral constellation, with its unbiased makeup free from any geopolitical influence, can also foster international partnership and trust. The European-centric constellation is attuned to the region’s goals of resiliency and competitiveness in the global space sector, the company noted.

The strategic role of satellites is also central to WISeSat. Space’s partnership with the Swiss Army, which will use the company’s satellite-based IoT connectivity solutions to boost situational awareness, logistics capabilities and disaster response.

The company’s other upcoming development activities include installing a satellite antenna in Switzerland in the fourth quarter of 2024 to ensure the reliability of its IoT services. Development is also underway for an additional 88 low-orbit satellites to optimize WISeSat. Space’s global coverage for IoT devices.
