The Romanian Naval Forces will integrate the Marte ER anti-surface warfare missile into its two Airbus H215M helicopters to provide flexible mission capability with automatic or manual navigation and salvo firing.

According to the missile manufacturer, France-based MBDA, it will work on the aircraft’s missile platform integration under a contract with Romanian aerospace company IAR Brasov. The company also said it will collaborate with Airbus and other local partners to fully integrate Marte ER into the aircraft’s mission system level.

Arnaud Rousset, MBDA vice president for Europe, described the company’s weapon system as able to meet European defense challenges.

“We are proud to contribute to the Romanian Armed Forces’ strategic autonomy, and we will continue to act as a trusted partner by offering a comprehensive portfolio adapted to their current and future needs,” he said.

Marte ER, the latest generation of the MBDA missile family, is already integrated into several platforms for the Italian military and other customers. The missile is designed for all-weather operations and can engage targets at more than 100 kilometers.
