L3Harris Avionics Unit Emerges as First Certified US Repair Facility for European Military Aircraft

Global aerospace and defense company L3Harris announced that its avionics products repair station in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has received the European Military Airworthiness Requirement Part 145 certification.

The contractor-run association Approved Maintenance Organizations recently started requiring accreditation for facilities maintaining aircraft and aircraft components registered in European Union Aviation Safety Agency member states.

L3Harris said Airbus Helicopters asked for its avionics repair facility’s EMAR-145 compliance by January 2025 to support Airbus H160M deliveries to France. Paris awarded Airbus a contract in 2021 for supplying 169 H160M variants to the French navy, army and air force.

L3Harris’ EMAR-145 certification was awarded in early April after an assessment visit of ethe French Directorate General of Armament to the Grand Rapids repair facility in February. The company created a team to establish new processes to augment existing systems in the facility and train its personnel to achieve the AMO standards.

Besides repair services, L3Harris Avionics offers products for situational awareness, safety and flight efficiency.
