Balfour Beatty to Support Rolls-Royce Expansion for New Royal Navy, AUKUS Projects; Terry Meighan Quoted

U.K.-based global infrastructure group Balfour Beatty will support the Rolls-Royce Submarines’ Raynesway campus expansion to meet the growing needs of the British Royal Navy and Australia’s $3.1 billion, 10-year commitment to the AUKUS submarine program.

Rolls-Royce said Balfour Beatty will build new manufacturing facilities and offices in the submarine plant in Derby, England, doubling its size to accommodate 1,170 additional personnel.

In March, Rolls-Royce disclosed that multidisciplinary professional services consultancy firm WSP will provide the expansion project’s design requirements. Over the next 10 years, Balfour Beatty and WSP will closely collaborate on the Raynesway site expansion, Rolls-Royce said.

Terry Meighan, Rolls-Royce Submarines’ infrastructure director, cited the “strong and reliable supply chain” that Balfour Beatty is bringing into the expansion project. “This is an exciting milestone as we grow our site and our business to meet the enhanced demand for our expertise,” he said.

Rolls-Royce Submarines currently has over 4,500 personnel involved in the design, manufacture and in-service support of the pressurized water reactors that power the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet. Current projects on the site include providing the reactor plant and related components to the Royal Navy’s Astute and Dreadnought shipbuilding program.
