US, Czech Republic Strengthen Defense Partnership, Reaffirm Ukraine Support

The United States and the Czech Republic have reaffirmed their friendship and shared commitment to upholding democratic principles and human rights.

On Tuesday, Spencer P. Boyer, deputy assistant secretary of defense for European and NATO policy, welcomed Jan Jireš, director general for defense policy and strategy at Czechia’s Ministry of Defense, at the Pentagon for the annual High-Level Defense Group discussion.

During the meeting, the two nations voiced continued support for Ukraine amid its war against Russia. The U.S. and Czech Republic representatives also pledged assistance to Ukraine.

The meeting marks three decades of partnership between the two nations. Czechia is a member of the State Partnership Program, a 1990s initiative that pairs U.S. states with nations emerging from the former Soviet Bloc. The Czech Republic has been paired with Texas and Nebraska.
