BAE Systems has established a new business unit to grow its space capabilities. This unit arose from acquiring U.K. satellite company In-Space Missions in 2021, which was integrated into the company’s Digital Intelligence unit.
Doug Liddle, co-founder of In-Space Missions, will head the new business unit, which will handle BAE Systems’ Azalea satellite program focused on a constellation of multi-sensor satellites for real-time, low-Earth orbit gathering information and intelligence to support U.K. defense.
The new BAE Systems unit’s management team comprises senior leaders from the company’s Digital Intelligence and In-Space Missions. The team’s section heads are Elizabeth Seward, strategy and market development; Kathryn O’Donnell, operations and services; Elaine Greaney, engineering; Matthew Angling, research and innovation; Markos Trichas, secure space and key accounts; and Sarah Parker, finance.
The space leadership team includes Richard Batchelor as delivery director, Ed Stevens as chief engineer and Tony Holt as lead of business development and propositions.
In addition to the Azalea constellation, the new team will investigate opportunities for environmental monitoring, mapping, radio frequency monitoring and rideshare missions.
