Saab, Ukraine’s Radionix Partner on Sensors, Defense Electronics

Saab and Ukrainian defense company Radionix have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on sensors and defense electronics, aiming to boost Kyiv’s defense capabilities.

The partnership will concentrate on the development and maintenance of sensors and defense electronics across all domains, leveraging Radionix’s expertise in radar and optical targeting equipment and Saab’s defense industry and technical experience.

In September 2024, Saab CEO Micael Johansson disclosed that the company was in talks with several Ukrainian companies to explore local production of drones, munitions parts, sensor technology and other defense equipment. He highlighted the shift from donation-based aid to direct partnerships with Kyiv, emphasizing the importance of helping Ukraine develop sovereign defense capabilities.

Saab Deputy CEO Anders Carp looks forward to the Radionix collaboration, saying, “This agreement underscores Saab’s strong commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defense capability and defense industry.”

Building on its focus on advanced sensor technology, Saab is also working with Finnish synthetic aperture radar satellite manufacturer ICEYE to integrate space-based radar data into its command and control systems. This joint effort will explore the integrated solution’s impact on multidomain operations, focusing on enhancing space situational awareness and critical infrastructure protection.
